Points of Interest on the Near West Side, 1923

Of the thousands of homes, businesses, schools, hospitals, and other points of interest on the Near West Side, only fragmentary information exists for a vast majority. However, through research done at the Milwaukee County Historical Society archives, the Near West Side Project has cataloged the use, ownership, and location of a number of sites.

The map embedded below shows over 100 points of interest on Milwaukee's Near West Side. Some of the businesses still exist today, some of the buildings are still standing but have taken on new purposes, and others have given way to new construction as the Near West Side has grown over the century. Click on the orange dots to see buildings about which the Near West Side Project has compiled a short description. The black dots also provide names and locations of old points of interest and will described at greater length as the project continues in future years.
